Knox County Courthouse remodeling gets new funding source

GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) - Upkeep of the historic Knox County Courthouse in Galesburg looks more likely with revenue earmarked from a landfill dumping fee.

The (Galesburg) Register-Mail reports (http://bit.ly/1SAo2hy) the county board last month approved transferring dump fees totaling about $90,000 a year to the building fund.

Building committee co-chairman Greg Bacon says the courthouse requires about $1 million in improvements during the next five years. He says the courthouse needs a new fire escape, new masonry, electrical work and restroom remodeling.

Bacon says the landfill fees going to the building fund will give the county the ability to borrow money for the remodeling projects.
