Burrows, Vernon Hills claim decisive victory

At Vernon Hills, the host Cougars got a big win in Class 3A girls basketball regional action, topping Regina Dominican 50-31 on Tuesday thanks in part to 16 points from Katie Burrows.

Sophia Lehocky added 8 points and 6 rebounds for Vernon HIlls while Becky Bahlmann had 6 points and 10 rebounds and Kayla Caudle finished with 6 points and 7 rebounds.

"It was a tough game and a good win," Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner said. "Credit Regina for playing hard and playing well."

Vernon Hills moves to 13-15 on the season.

Carmel 64, North Chicago 21: At Northside, No. 3 seed Carmel breezed by No. 19 North Chicago in regional action.

Freshman guard Ranya Jamison paced Carmel (18-11) with 15 points while senior forward Daija Pruitt added 13 points.

Antioch 74, Amundsen 14: At Resurrection, Antioch got its reserves a lot of minutes in the breezy regional win.

Freshman reserve center Skylar DeL'ao scored a team- and career-high 13 points while the Reiser twins didn't score in their usual bunches but still stuffed the stat sheet.

Amy Reiser had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals while Ashley Reiser had 4 points, 6 assists and 5 steals.
