What she left was not journalism
Debra J Saunders recent Daily Herald column announced her exit from the White House press corps after 30 years of covering press briefings. She said one of her options for the future was "a return to journalism". I assume this candid statement indicates that a return to journalism would be in sharp contrast to what she is observing in the White House today.
The press corps was established to be watchdogs of democracy and not lapdogs promoting their own biases. Their responsibility is to provide quality political news coverage by sharing complete and accurate information without regard to their own prejudices and political affiliations. Public trust requires a new standard of reporting.
