Houseplants — Cure for the Winter Blues: 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at the Carol Stream Public Library, 616 Hiawatha Drive, Carol Stream. Plant evangelist Clark Hudmon, co-owner and general manager of The Barn Owl Garden Center, will host “Sure Cure for the Winter Blues: Houseplants.” The heart of winter is a perfect time to bring a little life and beauty into your home. The discussion will focus on picking the right plants for your indoor space and ensuring the health and beauty of your houseplants. This interactive session will be for all levels, from beginners to those with a green thumb. This event is held in partnership with the DuPage Organic Gardening Club. Palatine Winter Farmers Market: 9 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays of the month through April, at the Palatine Train Station parking lot. Home Improvement and Interior Design Trade Expo: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 6-7, at Countryside Convention and Banquet Center, 6200 Joliet Road, Countryside.
