Baseball: Hersey's a hit at Palatine
Hunter Johnson led an impressive offensive showing for Hersey, finishing 3-for-6 with 6 RBI as the Huskies' baseball team earned a 16-8 victory at Palatine on Tuesday.
Daniel Clawson got the Huskies going with an RBI triple in the first inning. Other big producers for Hersey (5-8-1) included James Denten (4-5, double, 3 RBI), AJ Ceffalio (3-for-4) and Cristian Rodriguez (2-for-4).
Cade O'Neal walked twice, scored twice and also swiped a pair of bases.
Luke Picchiotti allowed 3 earned runs in 4⅔ innings to get the win.
Senior Mike Nielsen homered, scored twice and drove in 2 runs for Palatine. Josh Stitt doubled and drove in 2 runs, and Jack Hopper also had 2 RBI.
Carmel 4, St. Viator 2: Carmel came up with a 4-run second inning and made great use of its 3 hits to earn an East Suburban Catholic Conference win against the visiting Lions.
The Lions (8-4) were also limited to 3 hits, which were singles by Jack Mahoney, Hunter Johnson and Bryce Hellgeth.
James Ward went the distance for the Corsairs, while Hellgeth lasted 3 innings for the Lions and suffered the loss.
Barrington 6, Rolling Meadows 2: Broncos starter Daniel Ensign struck out eight and allowed 2 hits over 5⅔ innings to help host Barrington (7-2-2) stay ahead of the Mustangs.
Clark Elliott and Mike Owsley both drove in 2 runs for Barrington, and Nick Bogaerts had a pair of hits.
Rolling Meadows senior starter Nate Pardini also struck out eight and had one of the Mustangs' 2 hits.
R.J. Nowicki tossed a perfect 1⅓ innings of relief, striking out all four batters he faced, to earn a save for Barrington.
