Bike safety promotion in Mundelein

Children riding bicycles while wearing safety helmets in Mundelein can win certificates redeemable for frozen treats.

The Mundelein Police Department is teaming with Greg's Frozen Custard, 1490 S. Lake St., for the promotion, Chief John Monahan announced at this week's village board meeting.

Officers who see young bike riders wearing helmets will hand out the certificates.

The effort launches this weekend and will run through Labor Day weekend in September.

The certificates come with a selection of bike safety tips.
