Skateboarder critically injured in Geneva crash
A 23-year-old Batavia man riding a skateboard was critically injured Sunday night in a crash in Geneva, authorities said.
The man was struck by a car at 8:12 p.m. in the 1500 block of Crissey Avenue (Route 25), just north of the Fabyan Windmill, according to a news release from the city of Geneva.
Multiple witnesses told authorities the man was riding south on a skateboard in the roadway when the crash occurred.
A 73-year-old Batavia man was driving his 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe south on Route 25. He later told police that he did not see the skateboarder due to the darkness.
When police and emergency crews arrived at the scene, paramedics took over for witnesses who were giving the injured skateboarder CPR. The man was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva with life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The driver, who was not injured in the crash, has been fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
The case remains under investigation by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team in conjunction with the Geneva Police Department.
