Car in pond near Route 45 causes traffic delays

Authorities closed part of Northwind Boulevard in Libertyville Monday after a car drove into a pond, officials said.

Police and fire personnel responded to reports of a black 4-door sedan submerged in a pond near Route 45 at about 4:45 p.m. Monday, according to authorities. Officials said police closed part of Northwind Boulevard between Peterson and Winchester roads while divers removed the driver from the car.

Officials said the driver was transported unconscious to a nearby hospital, and it was unclear why the car drove into the pond.

Route 45 remained open, but the stretch of Northwind Boulevard will remain closed while police investigate the incident, authorities said.

Information on the driver's condition wasn't immediately available.
