Man charged with DUI after crashing vehicle onto Metra train line in Bartlett
A Carol Stream man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle crashed onto the Metra Milwaukee District West railroad tracks Saturday night, halting train traffic, police said.
David Ballinas, 22, faces a Class 4 felony charge of aggravated DUI and two class Class A misdemeanor charges alleging DUI and driving while license suspended, according to police.
He also was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and unlawful possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle.
Bartlett police allege Ballinas was driving a 2010 Honda CRV at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday, when the vehicle left the roadway at South Main Street and Railroad Avenue, crashing onto the tracks.
Metra police also responded to assess the damage and coordinate railroad repairs.
Ballinas was released and given a court date at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
