Hampshire church collects special offering for local food pantries

St. John’s United Church of Christ-Harmony collected 875 pounds of food along with $340 with a special offering with a “reverse Advent” calendar where everyday a food items was given for the pantries the church supports.

Families were challenged to gather items for 24 days ending on Dec. 10 so items could go to the pantries before Christmas.

The congregation also had a giving tree for Home of the Sparrow in Woodstock and gift cards for families needing help were provided.

On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, worship will be held at 9 a.m. and a candlelight service with caroling at 7 p.m.
