Indiana doctor arrested after federal agents raid home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a physician is facing felony drug charges in connection with writing prescriptions for addictive pain killers.

Fort Wayne anesthesiologist Dr. Michael Cozzi was charged Tuesday with felony possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug after federal agents raided his home and offices. He was taken to the Allen County jail.

Documents filed by the Indiana Attorney General with the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana describe Cozzi as a "clear and immediate danger to the public health and safety." The state is seeking the suspension of Cozzi's license to practice medicine.

Authorities contend Cozzi prescribed controlled substances to 1,700 different people. The prescriptions include 2 million dosage units of Oxycodone and 1.2 million dosage units of hydrocodone.

It wasn't immediately known if Cozzi has obtained legal representation.
