Geneva names new fire chief

Geneva has named a lieutenant from its paid-on-call ranks as its next fire chief.

The city council Monday appointed Lt. Michael Antenore to the position, starting Aug. 8.

Current Chief Steve Olson is retiring as of June 30. Deputy Chief Mark Einwich will lead the department until Antenore takes over.

"I feel privileged to work with the men and women of the department. They are truly dedicated professionals and are committed to serving our citizens, businesses and visitors. Under the leadership of Chief Olson, the organization has grown into an internationally accredited fire and rescue agency. I look forward to continuing to build upon his and the department's many accomplishments," Antenore said in a prepared statement.

Antenore has worked for Geneva since 1996, starting as a part-time firefighter. He led the 2015-20 fire department strategic planning process.

He will oversee 26 full-time firefighter/paramedics and more than 40 paid-on-call ones.

Antenore is director of marketing for Nalco in Naperville.

Antenore lives in Geneva.
