Palatine Legion hosting food drive throughout April
Palatine American Legion Post 690 will be holding a food drive this month for the Palatine Township Food Pantry.
A tub marked for donations will be stationed throughout April in the entry way of the downstairs clubroom at the post, 122 W. Palatine Road, said Mary Beth Richardson, a chairwoman of the food drive.
"During the month, we encourage anyone who visits the American Legion to bring a donation," she said.
The needs of the food pantry vary during the year, but any donation is appreciated. Throughout the year, the food pantry needs juice, cereal, diapers, ketchup, mustard, chicken or beef soup, mashed or canned potatoes, baking items such as flour or sugar, tomato sauce as well as diced or stewed tomatoes, paper products and cleaning supplies.
"Besides can and boxed items, the food pantry accepts fresh vegetables," said Bill Pohlman, a food drive co-chairman.
The Palatine Township Food Pantry provides assistance to anyone in need living within Palatine Township's boundaries. The pantry has served an average of 345 families each month during the past year.
