Suburban Chicago man gets 15-yr sentence in cocaine case
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) - A judge has handed a 51-year-old suburban Chicago man a 15-year prison sentence for trying to sell a kilogram of cocaine.
The Kane County state's attorney's office says Carlos Garcia-Perez sought to sell it for $27,000. His would-be buyer in 2013 turned out to be an informant. The Elgin man was convicted Jan. 20 for unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
The Kane County associate judge also ordered Garcia-Perez to pay a fine of $46,400. She determined that was the estimated street value of the cocaine.
Garcia-Perez must serve at least 75 percent of his sentence. He also gets credit for his time in jail awaiting trial.
