Elgin Hispanic Network to host Thanksgiving luncheon

The Elgin Hispanic Network will host its annual 2016 Thanksgiving Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Elgin Community College's Fox Valley University & Business Center, 1700 Spartan Drive.

It will honor this year's four educational scholarship award recipients along with the Member of the Year and Organization of the Year awards.

Proceeds from this event will help to fund future recipients of the Elgin Hispanic Network Scholarship which is awarded to area high school students who excel academically and demonstrate commitment to the Elgin community.

This year's keynote speaker will be 2020 Olympic hopeful Anali Cisneros of Elgin who is one of the top female junior race walkers in the country. She is a two-time Junior National Race Walk Champion and has competed for the United States Track & Field team in seven different international competitions. Currently, she is a freshman at Judson University studying pre-medicine and is a proud Judson Eagle running cross country as well as track and field. She aspires to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as well as become a doctor specializing in sports medicine.

The luncheon invocation will be given by the Rev. John Palmieri of Elgin's New Life Community Church (formerly known as Elgin Bible Church). New Life Community Church is one of Elgin's newest churches, having held its grand opening in February 2016.

The Elgin Hispanic Network is a nonprofit civic organization that has been in existence since 1987 and continues to grow. Membership consists of over 70 organizations and 120 individuals that serve the Hispanic community in the greater Elgin area.

The network encompasses many sectors of our community from social services, government, healthcare, and education to private businesses.
