Rap was wrong choice for Super Bowl show
Watching yesterday's Super Bowl halftime show featuring notable rap music performers, I was appalled that the NFL chose this genre of music to celebrate at the biggest football game of the year. Does anyone listen to the lyrics of this music? Does anyone realize it promotes violence, rape & even murder? No wonder we have problems with crime in this country - rap music promotes it. For the NFL to pick this music to showcase was probably the worst choice of halftime entertainment I can recall.
I'm all in favor of celebrating minority music, be it African American or any other. February is Black History Month, so that choice was appropriate. Choosing to showcase and hype rap music was a poor, even despicable choice; the league couldn't have made a worse one.
I'm sure some readers will think I'm old and racist - I am not. For what it's worth, my wife and I had a small business concern for 10 years, employing mostly African Americans. Our son still runs the business.
If we as Americans continue to promote this type of music, don't wonder why there's violence in our streets. This music is one of the root causes, in my opinion. Shame on the NFL for promoting it.
