Softball: Foote powers another Antioch victory
Jill Foote hit her fifth home run of the season, and Carlie Gaylord and Deighton Butenschoen each went 3-for-4, as Antioch's softball team beat visiting Round Lake 13-3 in a North Suburban Conference Prairie Division opener that lasted five innings Tuesday.
Antioch (7-1), which won its seventh in a row, got a pair of doubles from Gaylord. Katie Sorenson, Ashley Stephens (2-for-4) and Annie Wagner (2-for-4) also doubled for the Sequoits. Freshman Callie Tubbs was 1-for-1 with 2 stolen bases.
Fellow freshman Sorenson pitched 4 innings for the win, allowing 2 hits and 2 earned runs. The lefty struck out five and walked four. Hannah Cook struck out the side in the fifth.
Grayslake Central 8, Buffalo Grove 2: Grayslake Central rushed out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and stayed hot, rolling up 12 hits on the game.
Trinity Buck had 4 hits for Grayslake Central.
Lake Zurich 13, Lake Forest 12: Lake Zurich won an offensive explosion that included a 4-for-5 performance by Sarah Schnecker.
Schnecker drove in the winning run and finished with 6 RBI on the game.
Amanda Guercio, Jessica Puccinelli and Julia Zaucha each had 3 hits for the Bears, who earned their first win of the season. They are now 1-3.
Winning pitcher Taylor Zelich got 3 strikeouts over 4⅔ innings.
Grant 15, Grayslake North 0: Grant scored 11 runs in the first inning.
Sydney Goessele was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs.
