Letter: End justifies the leak?

It is surprising to me that you published Keith Peterson's opinion in Sunday's Daily Herald. I say this because Mr. Peterson, a frequent guest columnist, justified the egregious and unprecedented leak of the Supreme Court's draft decision in the Mississippi abortion law case for two reasons: 1) leaks frequently happen in Washington, D.C., and 2) the leaker can violate a trust if the leaker's conscience discerns a "higher purpose." What is outrageous, or was outrageous in an earlier time, is that this justification for breaching trust or confidentially, duly pledged on oath, is nothing more than a restatement in sophisticated terms of what we all know and deride as "the end justifies the means."
