Tunnel connecting Mannheim to Balmoral in Rosemont opens

A tunnel from southbound Mannheim Road to eastbound Balmoral Avenue taking drivers into Rosemont has officially opened, village officials said Friday.

It follows the opening last November of a four-lane extension of Balmoral west over Mannheim, under O'Hare International Airport's "people mover" train line, connecting with Bessie Coleman Drive near the airport.

"This project has been a long time in the making but it is finally a reality and motorists who need to access Rosemont's many attractions will be able to get to them from any direction," Mayor Brad Stephens said in a statement. "This road improvement will mean better traffic flow into and out of O'Hare for thousands of vehicles that access Rosemont."
