Softball: Vernon Hills outscores Deerfield

Vernon Hills 10, Deerfield 7: Samantha Saliba had 3 hits as Vernon Hills won a hitting duel with Deerfield. The two teams combined for 26 hits.

Dana Meline, Nicole Pieper, Delaney Bowen and Danielle Comitor added 2 hits apiece for the Cougars.

Meline had a triple while Pieper, Saliba and Rose Ferolo all doubled.

Winning pitcher Mackenzie Mahler gave up just 2 hits in 3⅔ innings.

Wauconda 3, McHenry 1: Kayla Wedl had 2 hits, a home run and a double, to lead Wauconda to the nonconference win.

Wedl was also the winning pitcher. She rolled up 10 strikeouts over seven innings. She also gave up only 1 walk.

Grayslake Central 13, Highland Park 2: Morgan Smigielski had 2 hits, including a home run, to lead Grayslake Central.

Teagan Truskowski had 3 hits and Trinity Buck added another 2 hits for the Rams, who out-hit Highland Park 15-2.

Reagen Radke was the winning pitcher. She rolled up 10 strikeouts over five innings and also gave up only 1 walk.

Prairie Ridge 9, Grant 4: Erin Bengston had 3 hits to lead Grant.

Keyana Linbo, Megan Mitchell and Taylor Adkins all doubled for the Bulldogs.

Antioch goes 1-2: At Antioch, the Sequoits saw their 13-game winning streak snapped, as they finished 1-2 in their own invite.

Antioch (14-3) started the day with a 12-2 loss to defending Class 3A state champ Washington. Katie Sorenson and Piper Foote had the Sequoits' only hits (singles).

Antioch rebounded to beat Benet Academy 6-4, as sisters Piper and Jill Foote homered in the same game for the second time this season. Jill Foote was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Piper was 2-for-2. Carlie Gaylord finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Sorenson and Ashley Stephens both doubled.

The Sequoits wrapped up the day with a 6-4 loss to Richmond-Burton, which won the game on Alexa Rodriguez's walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Stephens and Piper Foote each had a pair of hits for the Sequoits.
