Baseball: Seventh-inning rally lifts Hoffman Estates past Conant
Hoffman Estates' baseball team came up with 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a 4-3 victory over visiting Conant on Wednesday in MSL West play.
Dylan Bloom finished 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI from the leadoff spot for the Hawks, and Lucas Barnes also had 2 hits.
Starter Jon Keller limited Conant to 4 hits over the first 6 innings, and Kurt Foy earned the win after tossing a scoreless seventh for Hoffman Estates (2-5, 1-1).
Sam Ryan came up with a double and Mason Sykes, Tim Fauth and Jack Reiger also had hits for Conant (4-7, 1-1).
Hersey 7, Buffalo Grove 4: The No. 5 through 8 hitters in Hersey's lineup were tough outs, with each of those positions contributing 2 hits apiece as the Huskies picked up their first MSL East victory on the road.
No. 7 hitter John O'Shea finished 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI as Hersey got all its scoring done in the second and third innings. Also finished with 2 hits were A.J. Ceffalio, Tom Barnes and Mark Losacco.
Losacco pitched a complete game for Hersey (4-5-1, 1-1), allowing 6 hits.
Riley Lundquist and Chase Marsh both had 2 hits for the Bison (7-1-1, 1-1). Rundquist doubled and finished with 3 RBI.
Palatine 4, Schaumburg 3: Starter Evan Daly tossed a complete game for the victorious Pirates, striking out eight and walking two to help visiting Palatine sweep the Saxons.
Zach Oles, John Weber and Jake Andersen each doubled for Palatine (6-6, 2-0).
Jack Lancaster led Schaumburg's effort at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and solo homer.
Prospect 1, Elk Grove 0 (9 inn.): Ryan Roggeman's fielder's choice plated the game's only run in the bottom of the ninth as the host Knights earned a series sweep against the three-time defending MSL champs.
Ryan Howe was a workhorse on the mound for Prospect (5-5, 2-0). He pitched all 9 innings and got the win after allowing 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks.
Howe also had 2 of Prospect's 4 hits and scored the game's run.
Zach Schwartz and Ryan Uehara each doubled for Elk Grove (4-6, 0-2), which got terrific pitching from starter Xander Rojahn (7 IP, 2 H, 5K).
Wheeling 7, Rolling Meadows 2: The host Wildcats improved to 2-0 in the MSL East with their second win over the Mustangs in as many days.
The Mustangs led 2-1 after the fourth inning, but Wheeling produced a 6-run rally in the bottom of the sixth.
Drew Roberts and Andy Shover both drove in 2 runs as the Wildcats (4-4-2, 2-0) made good use of their 5 hits and 4 Mustangs errors.
Jack Splett earned the win in relief after starter Patrick Cooney pitched effectively for 5 innings, allowing 2 run on 4 hits.
Brandon Janowicz had 2 of the 6 hits for Rolling Meadows (1-9, 0-2).
St. Viator 10, Bartlett 2: John Finnegan was a force at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with a double and a homer as the host Lions (7-4) earned a nonconference victory.
Finnegan drove in 3 runs, and Casey Kmet went 2-for-3 with a double, along with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Starter Jack Mahoney earned the win after allowing 2 earned runs through 5 innings.
Barrington 9, Fremd 1: Brooks Gosswein struck out 10 in 5⅔ innings, while Blake Gosswein led an impressive offensive effort with a double and 3 RBI as the visiting Broncos rolled to a second straight win in MSL West play.
Leadoff man Tyler Trojan finished 3-for-4 and drove in 3 runs, and Clark Elliott and Will Yorton had 2 hits apiece (along with Blake Gosswein) for Barrington (12-3, 2-0).
Eric Bennes had the lone hit for Fremd (3-8, 0-2).
Brad Peters worked 1⅓ scoreless relief innings for Barrington.
