Naperville man faces attempted murder charge

A 40-year-old Naperville man faces numerous domestic violence-related charges - including attempted murder - in connection with the stabbing of a 44-year-old woman over the weekend in Aurora.

Steven J. Karpinski of the 1700 block of Denison Road is being held in the Will County Correctional Center in Joliet on charges of attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, interfering with the reporting of domestic battery and two counts of domestic battery in the attack on the woman with whom he had once had a relationship.

Aurora police said the stabbing occurred about 3:20 p.m. Saturday in a townhouse on the 2500 block of Hillsboro Boulevard on the city's far southeast side. The woman suffered a serious, but nonlife-threating stab wound to her neck and is being treated at an Aurora hospital.

Karpinski fled in his pickup truck after the stabbing, authorities said. Police took him into custody without incident about 11:40 a.m., Sunday near Normantown Road and Schoger Drive in Aurora.
