Inequity reinforced

You've heard the expression - Either you're part of the solution or you're part of the problem. The Daily Herald has made its decision to be part of the problem. Throughout March there was lots of national press about the inequity in the NCAA Basketball tournaments. The women definitely getting the raw end of the stick. You would think this would be a heads up to our local media to make choices that demonstrate equity and respect for women athletes and champions.

Fast forward to the Monday, April 5 front page of the Sports Section. The night before, an outstanding, competitive, nail-biting women's game resulted in the NCAA Women's National Basketball Champion. Would it surprise you to know that the brief article about the women's' championship didn't make it to the front page? Instead, there was a more lengthy article about the men's championship game that had not yet even been played.

Which was really the news? Daily Herald, your decision demonstrates that you are happy to reinforce the inequity in men's and women's sports by what you decide to publish and where.
