Lincolnshire Police Explorers receive first-place honors

Submitted by the village of Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire Police Explorers attended the 2018 National Law Enforcement Explorer Conference at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, July 15-21.

Seven Lincolnshire Explorers competed against 2,500 other participants from around the country in 12 potential team categories. In team competitions, Explorers are placed in scenario-based situations where they are graded on their response and performance similar to how a police officer would handle a call for service.

Lincolnshire Explorers competed in Bomb Scene Search, Domestic Crisis Intervention, and the Officer Down/Emergency First Aid. Lincolnshire took first place in Domestic Crisis Intervention at the national competition.

In additional to competing, Lincolnshire Explorers left the conference one evening to travel to Anderson, Indiana, to meet with a police officer who shared his unique experience.

Several years ago, Officer Marty Dulworth and his police dog partner, Kilo, responded to the neighboring community of Pendleton, where an officer had been shot responding to a domestic disturbance.

When Officer Dulworth arrived, he was ambushed by the offender who lay in wait. Officer Dulworth was shot multiple times. Today, Officer Dulworth wears a prosthetic leg and continues to serve as a police officer in Anderson.

As Explorers, "explore" their career, it is important they hear Officer Dulworth's story: his resilience to fight, overcome, not give up, and to get back in the game.

Overall, the 2018 conference displayed how well-trained Lincolnshire Explorers are for their futures. Many Explorer Posts sent large numbers of Explorers from big city police departments such as Cincinnati, L.A. County, New York City, Tampa, the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol, etc.

Once again, a small town continues to maintain a hefty reputation around the country, as Lincolnshire is known at these conferences to stand up among the others.
