Cops coordinate toy donations in Arlington Heights

The Arlington Heights Police Department will host its 12th annual Shop With a Cop event at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, followed by its first Toys for Tots Drive-Thru Donation event from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Both will take place at Target, 1700 E. Rand Road.

Ten children ages 9-10 will have the store to themselves before it opens for the day, getting a Target gift card to buy gifts for their families. They'll be assisted by about 20 cops and John Hersey High School students.

Later, officers will be stationed in the parking lot to accept new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. Donations are also being accepted until Dec. 8 at the temporary police headquarters, 1500 W. Shure Drive, and village hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road.
