Aurora man with three DUIs charged with fleeing police, driving drunk

An Aurora man accused of driving drunk and leading police on a car chase Saturday has been charged with four felonies and four misdemeanors.

Jeremy L. Ingram, 36, of the 400 block of Sherwood Drive, was driving his 2003 Mercedes near Ohio Street and Superior Street when an Aurora officer saw him disobey a stop sign, police said. When the officer tried to pull him over, Ingram sped off, police said.

In a Facebook post, police said the officer turned off his sirens and stopped chasing Ingram for the safety of nearby residents. The officer later came across Ingram's abandoned Mercedes, which had crashed into a fence.

A witness reported seeing Ingram trying to board a Pace bus at New York Street and Eastern Avenue, and Ingram was arrested.

Ingram, who has three previous DUI convictions, was charged with felony counts of aggravated DUI, aggravated driving while license suspended, obstruction of justice and aggravated fleeing and eluding police. Ingram was also charged with misdemeanor counts of DUI, not having insurance, driving with a revoked license and fleeing and eluding. He is being held at the Kane County jail.
