Indiana Tech agrees to lease space at redeveloped ex-GE site

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Indiana Tech could become the first tenant at a former General Electric campus in northeastern Indiana that's being redeveloped.

The school says it's signed a letter of intent lease space on the west side of the Electric Works campus in Fort Wayne. Indiana Tech President Karl Einolf says in a statement that it wants to help Fort Wayne "become an even better place to live, learn and work."

RTM Ventures is redeveloping the site with residential, retail, office and education space. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. recently approved a tax credit worth up to $50 million for the Electric Works project. The first phase is expected to cost about $213 million.

GE vacated the buildings in early 2015 after operating at the site since 1911.
