Trump, Whitaker and Mueller
Circumventing the probable intent of the new temporary attorney general to end Robert Mueller's investigation, the special counsel could employ action taken by Daniel Ellsburg 47 years ago.
Ellsburg released The Pentagon Papers showing that previous administrations and the then-current administration used covert actions to start and prolong the Vietnam War. The New York Times was its first recipient, followed by The Washington Post.
The Nixon Administration objected, stating it contained classified information relevant to the war. But the Supreme Court intervened, citing the 1st Amendment protecting the press and overruled the president.
Presumably, after more than a year and a half, Mueller must have enough evidence to duplicate Ellsberg's action, to allow its publication in American media, thwarting Trump's initiative to end the investigation.
Ellsberg didn't go to jail. He became an American hero. Why not Mueller?
