Indiana officials add 12 coronavirus deaths to state's toll
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Twelve more coronavirus-related deaths were reported Tuesday by Indiana health officials, a day after the statewide total of confirmed COVID-19 cases during the pandemic topped 100,000.
Indiana's newly recorded fatalities raise the state's death toll to 3,380, including confirmed and presumed coronavirus cases, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. The new deaths occurred between Thursday and Monday.
The agency said tests have confirmed at least 100,780 people in the state have been infected with the coronavirus since the first confirmed case six months ago in early March. The 394 new infections announced Tuesday were the fewest since the July 4 weekend as testing was down over the Labor Day weekend.
Indiana's seven-day average of new coronavirus infections dropped to about 350 a day in late June but has generally topped 900 since early August. Hospitalizations have gone up by about 50% in the state during that time.
