IU's board OKs $53M plan to partially enclose stadium

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - The board of trustees at Indiana University has approved a $53 million plan to enclose part of Memorial Stadium.

The enclosure of the football stadium's south end is part of a larger push to make capital improvements. The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/21qK7Al ) the upgrade will add over 66,000 gross square feet of facility space to the stadium, though it's not expected to significantly change seating capacity.

The project is expected to include new athlete treatment and academic support facilities, among other things.

Director of Athletics Fred Glass said Friday that he anticipates construction will start after the end of the 2016 home football schedule and will be completed in time for the 2018 season.
