Aurora man convicted of attempted murder
An Aurora man will spend at least 31 years in prison for trying to kill a man who was having a relationship with his estranged wife.
A Kane County jury late Thursday convicted 40-year-old Jermaine L. Baker of the 1200 block of Cottonwood Drive of attempted murder, home invasion and three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, according to a news release from the Kane County state's attorney's office Friday.
Baker broke into the victim's Aurora home on Aug. 27, 2014, while wearing wearing his wife's dress, a wig and gloves. He kicked the victim's bed to wake him and asked, "How do you want to die?" Baker fired three shots from a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, striking the victim in the hands, cheek, jaw and forehead, the news release said.
The victim was able to call 911 and make his way downstairs to open his front door for paramedics.
Baker has been held in the Kane County jail since his arrest. His next court appearance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. April 19.
