Letter: We must intercede before mass killings can occur

The Oklahoma City bomber still holds the record of infamy for his murder of 168 people in 1995 via an ammonium nitrate bomb.

The Las Vegas shooter in 2017 murdered 60 with an automatic weapon. In 2016, a man killed 49 in an Orlando nightclub with a semi-automatic rifle and a handgun.

In 1927, a Michigan man murdered 44 people, including 37 children, by setting off bombs at the school district he'd lost election in.

The one commonality in the four worst examples of mass murder in U.S. history is mental illness.

Recently, in Highland Park, the gunman killed seven, but the man charged in the case advertised his intentions far in advance of the tragedy. He should have been brought before a judge after one of the two threats he made to be assessed.

Mass murder is not exclusive to shooters.

It was a driver using an SUV who killed six at a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Let's take thoughtful action to identify such individuals prior to another tragedy.
