Hawthorn Woods lauded for Brierwood work

Hawthorn Woods recently was presented with the Public Natural Areas Award by the Chicago Region Trees Initiative for the village's efforts in restoring the new Brierwoods Preserve. The CRTI Urban Forestry Awards were presented during the annual partner celebration held the Morton Arboretum in Lisle. The event recognizes people, public and private organizations, and communities that are leaders in protecting, expanding and enhancing the tree canopy in the Chicago Region. Hawthorn Woods was the sole recipient of the Public Natural Areas Award. The 11.5-acre Brierwoods Preserve features an overlook of a forgotten wetland, a walking trail, a variety of trees, a butterfly habitat and other features near the Acorn Acres subdivision east of Route 12.
