Softball: Fremd goes OT to stay unbeaten

Fremd's perfect start to the softball season saw one of its most dramatic wins on Tuesday in Mundelein.

The Vikings edged host Carmel 13-12 in eight innings as sophomore Jessica Mazur picked up her first win of the season with a complete game.

Mazur also did it with her bat, belting a pair of 2-run homers while going 2-for-2 with 4 RBI, 3 walks and 3 runs.

The Corsairs rallied from a 10-4 deficit with 2 runs in the sixth and 4 in the seventh.

But Fremd scored 3 in the top of the eighth before Carmel fell short by a run in the bottom of the inning.

Coach Jim Weaver's squad improved to 6-0.

Senior Julia Wacker belted a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning and ended up 3-for-5 with 5 RBI and 2 runs.

Other top hitters for the winners were Abby Iuorio (3-for-4, 2 runs) and Reagan Schneider (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI). Becca Uhrich also doubled for Fremd.
