New Des Plaines History Center executive director appointed

The Des Plaines History Center board has appointed Philip Mohr, its senior curator and acting director, as its next executive director.

He succeeds Shari Caine, who died at age 52 last month after a battle with cancer. Caine hired Mohr in 2013 after he earned master's degrees in history and historical administration from Eastern Illinois University and a bachelor's degree in history from Westminster College.

"Philip has developed a thorough knowledge of the History Center and the Des Plaines community," Board President Mark Thompson said in a statement. "He has strong relationships with staff and our dedicated volunteers, donors and community partners. Philip's enthusiasm and energy are contagious and will help him be an effective leader and ambassador for the History Center."
