Aurora's Wesley United Methodist Church to host family movie night Oct. 18

Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May St. in Aurora, will hold a double-feature family movie night at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.

The public is invited. Admission and parking are free. Free beverages and popcorn will be served.

The Rev. John Bell, pastor, said "We will show two movies simultaneously. For the kids, 'Hocus Pocus' will be screened in the chapel and 'Young Frankenstein' will be shown for adults in the Gathering Place room."

The screenings are sponsored by the church's fine arts committee. Both films are rated PG.

A freewill offering will be taken to benefit chapel renovations.

"Hocus Pocus," a 1993 Walt Disney fantasy comedy-horror drama film, stars Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker. Written by Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris, it is based on a story by Garris and David Kirschner. It follows a villainous, yet comedic, trio of witches, who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenage boy in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween.

"Young Frankenstein" is a 1974 American comedy horror film directed by Mel Brooks and starring Gene Wilder as the title character, a descendant of the infamous Dr. Victor Frankenstein, and Peter Boyle as the monster. The film is a parody of the classic horror film genre, in particular the various film adaptations of Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein produced by Universal Pictures in the 1930s.

A critical favorite and box office smash, "Young Frankenstein" ranks No. 28 on Total Film magazine's readers' "List of the 50 Greatest Comedy Films of All Time." It was later adapted by Brooks and Thomas Meehan as a stage musical.
