Hopelessness kills, too

Re: 'How many deaths would you deem to be unacceptable?'

To answer Jim Slusher's rhetorical question is actually not as difficult to navigate as his opinion makes it seem.

Full disclosure, it's easy for people like Jim and me who are still working, albeit from home, to miss the crushing weight of losing jobs, homes and cars because the government took your job away. The first death due to suicide, drug or alcohol abuse caused by the shutdown order is one too many.

When hopelessness kills people through no fault of their own, the time has come to reassess the situation.
