Indianapolis art museum planning big changes for grounds

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indianapolis Museum of Art is planning a major redesign of its 152-acre grounds in the coming years.

The possible projects include a new pedestrian bridge across the Central Canal between the main museum building and its 100 Acres art-and-nature park, a tree-lined outdoor walkway, a new plaza with seating and food carts and a new children's garden and play area.

Museum director Charles Venable tells The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/2eIcfSR ) that the plan aims to prepare the museum for what visitors will want in the next 20 years and could cost $100 million to carry out. He says new generations of museum will want more movement inside and outside of the buildings, along with more outdoor interaction.
