Off-duty officer grazed by bullet on Chicago street

CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities say a Chicago police officer is in good condition after being grazed by a bullet after work.

Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the officer was shot at from a car Sunday around 5 a.m.

The officer had finished his overnight shift and was driving when he noticed another vehicle speeding up behind him. The officer slowed to let the vehicle pass. The vehicle instead pulled alongside the officer's car. Someone in the vehicle pointed a gun at the off-duty officer and fired shots. The officer was grazed in the upper arm. He returned fire and the other vehicle drove off.

Guglielmi says the motive for the shooting is unclear and detectives are investigating.
