US stocks edge mostly higher in early trading
NEW YORK (AP) - Stocks are eking out slight gains in early trading as the market builds on a modest climb from the day before.
Several companies were moving higher in early trading Thursday after reporting encouraging results and outlooks.
Salesforce.com jumped 9 percent after delivering a strong forecast for the year, and Newfield Exploration rose 6 percent after its earnings came in ahead of what analysts were expecting.
The Dow Jones industrial average edged up 31 points, or 0.2 percent, to 16,516 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose two points to 1,932. The Nasdaq composite was little changed at 4,541.
Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 1.72 percent.
