Softball: South Elgin slugs past Larkin
South Elgin 14, Larkin 1: The Storm amassed 17 hits in a five-inning Upstate Eight Conference crossover victory. Six batters smacked extra basehits for South Elgin (4-5), led by Mariah Spivey, who finished 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and 2 RBI. Winning pitcher Allison Kaiser limited Larkin to an unearned run on 3 hits and 3 walks and struck out 3 in 5 innings
Hampshire 13, Schaumburg 8: Hampshire took the lead with an unearned run in the fifth and blew open the nonconference affair with a 6-run sixth, keyed by a run-scoring double by sophomore Sarah Bowen, freshman Gwen Malecke's run-scoring single and a solo home run from freshman Emily Egger. Winning pitcher Jasmine Lopez lasted 5⅓ innings to earn the win for Hampshire (2-3).
St. Charles North 6, Wheaton Warrenville South 0: Winning pitcher Jillian Waslawski and Natalie Walters threw a combined no-hitter to lift the North Stars in nonconference action. Grace Quinn and Ashlyn Jozefowicz had 2 hits apiece and Allison Moberg doubled and drove in 2 runs.
St. Charles East 6, West Chicago 2: Senior Allie Balaskovits belted 2 home runs and drove in 5 to lead the Saints (8-2) in an Upstate Eight crossover. Sophomore Krista Sbarra went the distance to earn the victory, striking out 6 without issuing a walk. She held the Wildcats to 2 earned runs on 7 hits.
Streamwood 11, East Aurora 4: Rebecca Daley tripled twice in 4 at-bats, drove in 2 runs and scored three times in this Upstate Eight Conference win for the Sabres (3-0, 1-0).
Glenbard East 13, Elgin 3: The host Rams scored 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth to end this Upstate Eight crossover. Alexis Ruiz was 1-for-3 and drove in a run for Elgin (0-5), but the Maroons were outhit 12-4.
Kaneland 10, LaSalle-Peru 9: After giving up 5 runs in the top of the seventh, the Knights tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out single by Katie Kurzrock. Kaneland won the nonconference game in the eighth inning when Morgan Weber drew a leadoff walk and Donatella Sommesi followed with a walk-off triple.
Grant 4, Huntley 3: Huntley scored in the top of the seventh to send this nonconference road game to extra innings, but the Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the eighth. Autumn Kasal hit a home run and Rylie Porretto and Breanne Weiss doubled for Huntley (3-3).
Jacobs 10, Glenbrook North 0: Kerri Healy went 4-for-4 with a double and 4 runs scored, and Emily Pena doubled and drove in 4 runs in a nonconference win for the Golden Eagles (3-1) at the Leyden Invite. Winning pitcher Savannah Svedman pitched a 5-hitter in which she struck out 15 batters without issuing a walk.
Rosary 7, St. Edward 0: Riley McCue went 2-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBI and Krystal Cortes finished 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI to lead Rosary in nonconference action. Abby Young pitched a 3-hitter for the Royals. Emily Stapay took the loss in the circle for the Green Wave.
