Woodstock's deputy police chief appointed to top cop job

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) - The deputy police chief in Woodstock has been appointed to take the top job after the chief retires this summer.

The Northwest Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1VMsVX4 ) Chief Robert Lowen is retiring from the police department in northern Illinois after a decade in the position. Deputy Police Chief John Lieb will take over in June.

Lieb started with the police department in 2000 as a patrol office. He was promoted to sergeant in 2005 before becoming deputy chief in 2011. He's also a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point.

The police department has roughly 50 employees and a nearly $5 million budget.
