Two-car crash just misses Elk Grove police SUV

A two-vehicle crash in Elk Grove Village Friday night just missed a police SUV that was on its way to another call, authorities said.
The accident involving two SUVs happened just after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Higgins and Landmeier roads. An Elk Grove police SUV was stopped at a red light - headed to a garbage truck fire at nearby Groot Industries - when the crash occurred. The impact led both vehicles to come to rest on the police squad's front bumper, according to Elk Grove Village Fire Department Lt. James Denna.
An occupant of one of the SUVs involved in the crash was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that were described as non life-threatening.
