Kane County officials poised to monitor Tuesday's primary
As in the past, the Kane County state's attorney's office will operate an election complaint hotline for Tuesday's primary and have assistant state's attorneys fan out to visit polling places across the county for irregularities or electioneering complaints.
"Our goal is to ensure a fair election process for the candidates and citizens of Kane County," State's Attorney Joe McMahon said last week at his monthly media meeting. "I'm hopeful we'll have a large turnout at the polling places because that's an indication we have an engaged citizenry."
From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, anyone who witnesses or might experiences possible illegal activity, such as electioneering or denial of voting rights, can call (630) 208-5328 to make a complaint.
In addition to electioneering, another common complaint is political signs being placed too close to a polling place.
The hotline is not for election questions involving polling places or times.
For election information inquiries, voters should call the Kane County clerk's office at (630) 232-5990. McMahon said most complaints can be resolved on-site without an extensive investigation or legal action. He said he doesn't anticipate a spike in electioneering despite the heated primary races on both the Democrat and Republican sides for the presidential nomination.
