Elk Grove Village Fire Department Open House 2018
The Elk Grove Village Fire Department will hold its annual Fire Prevention Week Open House on Saturday, Oct. 13, from noon until 3 p.m. at Fire Station #7, 101 Biesterfield Road. The 2018 campaign theme chosen by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is "Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere." The goal is to educate people about these three basic but essential steps to reduce the likelihood of having a fire.
The Fire Department encourages everyone to come and meet our firefighters and get a close up view of our tools and vehicles. Adults will get to observe a side-by-side fire sprinkler demonstration and obtain important fire safety information for their homes. Kids will get the chance to slide down an old time fire pole, travel through our inflatable fire safety house, and participate in the kids firefighter challenge. The Police Department K-9 Unit will also be stopping by and Home Depot will be providing a kids' workshop.
Fire Prevention Week has been a national observance since 1925. It is held each year during the week of October 9th, in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It is an annual reminder that we all need to make some to understand how to stay safe in the event of a fire, or better yet, prevent them from happening in the first place.
