No one injured after 13 freight cars derail in Spring Grove

No one was injured when a freight train derailed early Tuesday morning near Blivin Street north of Route 12.

Spring Grove Fire Protection District Fire Chief Richard Tobiasz said his department was called to the scene at around 4:30 a.m. He said when they arrived they found that 13 freight cars had been derailed.

Tobiasz said no one was injured and the freight cars were all empty so there was nothing much for the fire department to do.

He said Blivin Street was shut down all day while train officials worked out how to remove the freight cars.

He said the property nearest to the crash site was an old lumberyard and one of the freight cars took out the old fence but the buildings on the property were untouched.
