Workers building boat in Elkhart find 6-inch fishing spider

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - Boat builders in northern Indiana caught a creepy-looking six-inch spider and later released the large arachnid back into the wild.

Workers at Godfrey Marine in Elkhart put the critter in a plastic bag to move it away from their work space.

They later learned the creature is called a fishing spider and is relatively harmless. Its long legs allow the spider to walk across water surfaces.

It's often mistaken for a wolf spider which is common in Indiana.

Godfrey Marine employee Jacob Collins left a warning Tuesday on social media for Elkhart County residents: "Beware ... they are out there and they are real."
