Man accused in shooting at business gets 50 years in prison
CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - A man accused of fatally shooting another man at a northwestern Indiana business has been sentenced to 50 years in prison.
The (Munster) Times (http://bit.ly/21lSBIc ) reports 47-year-old Gerald Haddle of Hebron was sentenced by a judge Thursday after he pleaded guilty but mentally ill to murder. He was accused of shooting Christopher Badten in July at a St. John business owned by Haddle's father.
Haddle told the judge he had asked for the death penalty, but that he was told that wasn't an option.
Haddle must serve at least 75 percent of his sentence.
