Judge sentences juvenile shooter in Effingham teen's death

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (AP) - A teenager from Effingham has been sentenced in a 16-year-old girl's shooting death.

The Effingham Daily News (http://bit.ly/1quQ9Dv ) reports that a judge ruled Thursday that the 16-year-old boy will serve time in a juvenile detention center for an indeterminate period not to extend past his 21st birthday.

The boy in March pleaded guilty in juvenile court to involuntary manslaughter and possession of a stolen firearm in connection with the Oct. 18 death of Kaylee N. Jacob. He admitted to shooting her with a gun he stole from a pickup truck in the Lake Sara area, but he told police that he didn't realize it was loaded.

The teen was ordered to pay nearly $11,000 to the Jacobs family for Kaylee's funeral expenses.
