Deer Park Town Center to host 'Color the Town Pink'

Deer Park Town Center will host its fifth annual "Color the Town Pink" event from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. The event will feature a short breast cancer awareness walk that's just under a mile long, with all event proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Activities will include a group warm-up presented by Equilibrium Personal Training, a pink pinwheel tribute to honor breast cancer survivors and those currently fighting cancer, and an awareness walk around the shopping center. All will end with a fashion show featuring breast cancer survivors, a DJ and some "Pink Perks" from stores around the center.

Participants can bring the whole family. Bright Horizons Child Care will host a Kids Zone, which will feature a face painter from BeeGiggles Entertainment and hands-on crafts for children. There also will be a chance to meet with Instagram star and trick dog Livie the Mork.

Attendees are encouraged to register in advance at www.shopdeerparktowncenter.com and make a $10 donation. The first 200 people to register with a donation will receive the 2018 Color the Town Pink shirt, an event bag filled with more than $200 in coupons, an Event raffle ticket and more pink surprises.

The event will feature a raffle table with prizes that include store gift cards, handbags, jewelry and three $100 Deer Park Town Center shopping sprees. Visit the Pink Perks area for a complimentary hand massage from Avalon Salon, pick up a pink treat from AMITA Health, or spin the Pink Prize wheel for a $1 donation.

A limited number of signature Color the Town Pink items will be available for an additional donation.

In addition to the group awareness walk and the fashion show, the event will feature an interactive area hosted by AMITA Health to help educate participants on cancer prevention. Many Deer Park Town Center retailers will be on hand showcasing pink merchandise and the latest fall trends.

Color the Town Pink will be held rain or shine near the Gazebo at Deer Park Town Center. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the walk to start promptly at 9:30 a.m.

This Making Strides event is a celebration of survivors and an opportunity to remember loved ones lost. The event is open to all ages, and leashed dogs are welcome.

Event sponsors include: Deer Park Town Center, American Cancer Society, AMITA Health, Bright Horizons Child Care, Equilibrium Personal Training, Novatoo Audio Visual, Divine Signs and Graphics, and Daily Herald Media Group.
